Shana Tova! JCRC-NY Celebrates Rosh Hashanah with Congressman Latimer

WESTCHESTER, NY (09/18/2026) (readMedia)-- On Friday, JCRC-NY, the Westchester Jewish Council, and JCC of Mid-Westchester hosted an event in Westchester with Congressman Latimer to celebrate the Jewish New Year, 5787. Attendees engaged directly with the customs of Rosh Hashanah, including a festive tasting of different varieties of apples and honey, gaining a deeper understanding of the meaning and significance of the holiday.

The successful, feel good event brought together Jewish communal leaders, local seniors, and the Congressman and other elected officials, and was followed by a visit to the JCC nursery school. Participants also visited Seasons, a local Jewish business, to taste honey cake and show support. The celebration was co-sponsored by JCC of Mid-Westchester and UJA Federation of New York.

"Rosh Hashanah reminds us that even after difficult chapters, we have the power to begin again and that one of our strongest answers to division is community," said JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger. "We should not gather only in moments of crisis; we must also gather in moments of joy. Today, we dipped apples in honey, had the special joy of sharing them with an early childhood class, heard the timeless call of the shofar that has accompanied generations of our people, and chose once again to celebrate openly, deepen relationships, and build bridges. At a time when too many forces seek to pull us apart, we are doubling down on bringing people together. I am deeply grateful to Congressman George Latimer, County Executive Ken Jenkins, Elliot Forchheimer and the Westchester Jewish Council, the JCC of Mid-Westchester, UJA-Federation of New York, our JCRC-NY board members, the Westchester County Board of Legislators, and all our community partners for welcoming 5787 with joy, hope, and community."
