FROSTBURG, MD (10/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Sharita Sivels of Brandywine, Md., has been selected to become a member of Frostburg State University's President's Leadership Circle. Through this group, FSU's top leaders will steward relevant causes through their proven capabilities in the classroom and in our community.

Sivels has served FSU's campus through her leadership as a resident advisor last year for Simpson Hall and continues to foster relationships with many other students on campus through her involvement as the vice president of the new organization that she co-founded last year, the Association of Leadership Development and Civic Engagement. She is a psychology and law and society double major and leadership studies minor. She is the daughter of George and Sharee Sivels and a graduate of Gwynn Park High School. Sivels sees faculty member Dr. Jeff McClellan as an inspirational leader because of his availability to his students, his compassion and his ability to help them see the best in themselves.

The President's Leadership Circle is a group of 12 students who have been selected as this year's top senior leaders. Qualifications for PLC include 75 or more credit hours completed, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and proven demonstration of leadership on campus. As a member of this elite group, PLC students will work with FSU's President, Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, and other important FSU stakeholders for mentorship opportunities. In addition, PLC members will participate in Sloop Leadership Weekend and in an international experience.

Within this group, students will be provided a variety of opportunities to further develop their leadership skills. They may also enhance their intercultural communication skills by engaging in a service-learning project in another culture and network with distinguished alumni.
