SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/28/2011)(readMedia)-- Shaun Kelly of Easthampton was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is a Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Kelly was one of 15 outstanding seniors to receive the award during the University's Homecoming Weekend.
A Business Management major, Kelly serves as a Peer Advisor and is active in the Class Council, Residence Hall Association, and Management Association. Kelly is also involved in Student Senate, serving as Publicity Chairperson, and is currently serving his second year as Vice President of the Campus Activities Board. His volunteer efforts include working with causes and events such as Special Olympics' Jolly Jaunt, the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, Gray House, and Many the Hands for Haiti Benefit Concert.
