PAUL SMITHS, NY (02/01/2017) (readMedia)-- A traveling exhibition of paintings and poetry titled "Shedding Light on the Working Forest" will go on display at the Paul Smith's College VIC's Heron Marsh Gallery from Feb. 3 to March 25.
The opening event will feature a presentation by visual artist Kathleen Kolb and poet Verandah Porche from 10:10 to 11 a.m. in the Freer Auditorium on the Paul Smith's College campus. The event is free and open to the public.
In conjunction with the exhibit, Paul Smith's professor Celia Evans and Adirondack storyteller Bill Torrey will give a musical-and-storytelling performance at 6 p.m. Feb 23 in the theater at the Paul Smith's College VIC.
The exhibit celebrates the landscape of the working forest and the voices of those who make their living there. Shedding Light draws on the artistic friendship of painter Kathleen Kolb and poet Verandah Porche, who are committed to subjects that have been largely overlooked by the arts. This exhibition engages those with a vital interest in the forest as a workplace, a home, a field of study and a playground, as well as viewers who have never set foot in the woods.
The VIC's art galleries are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is free. An extensive cross-country ski and snowshoe trail system is open dawn to dusk. Trail passes are required.
