Sheet Metal Workers Recruit Apprentices
ROCHESTER, NY (03/05/2010)(readMedia)-- Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 46 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, will conduct a recruitment from March 2, 2010 through March 1, 2011 for fifteen sheet metal worker apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Local Union #46, 244 Paul Road, Rochester, NY from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applicants must apply in person: no applications leave premises.
The Committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D) plus one year of Algebra with a passing grade or passing grade in Math Course I & Math Course II or minimum of 55 on G.E.D. math.
• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by a signed affidavit testifying to physical ability to perform the work of a Sheet Metal Worker.
• Must have a valid NYS driver's license if driving a company vehicle.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work or school.
• Residence: must have one year in one of the following counties: Monroe, Wayne, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, or Yates.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
