JAMESTOWN, NY (03/09/2010)(readMedia)-- The Sheet Metal Workers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local Union # 112, Jamestown Area, will conduct a recruitment from March 17, 2010 through February 16, 2011 for three sheet metal worker apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications will be available at the Local Union # 112, 827 East 2nd Street, Jamestown, NY, on third Wednesday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Must be a high school graduate or have a general equivalency diploma (GED).
* Must have a valid New York State Driver's License. Apprentices will be required to operate company owned vehicles.
* Must have reliable transportation to all worksites and school.
* Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by an affidavit attesting to ability to perform the duties of a sheet metal worker.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
