Sheet Metal Workers Recruit Apprentices
SYRACUSE, NY (07/03/2009)(readMedia)-- The Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local Union #58, will conduct a recruitment from July 6, 2009 through June 7, 2010 for 20 sheet metal worker apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.
Applications will be available at Local Union #58, 301 Pulaski Street, Syracuse, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the first Monday of each month during the recruitment period. However, if any holiday falls on the first Monday of a month during the recruitment, applications will be available Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. of that week.
The committee requires that applicants:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) as recognized by local authorities.
- Must have one year of algebra, Math I or first year high school regent's math.
- Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by the signed affidavit as submitted by an applicant.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
