Jordan Shenk has his rank pinned on him by his parents, Barry and Karen.

CHESTER, PA (05/28/2013)(readMedia)-- Jordan Shenk of New Park, Pa., was commissioned as a second lieutenant of the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at Widener University. He graduated from Widener on May 18 with a degree in civil engineering.

As a member of Widener's Dauntless Battalion, Shenk completed the Leader Development and Assessment Course. During his senior year, he served as the A company's first sergeant and battalion command sergeant major. He was also honored with the Captain Nathan R. Raudenbush Memorial Saber Award, which is presented to a Widener cadet who excels academically and participates in university sponsored and ROTC extra-curricular activities.

Shenk will serve the Army as a chemical officer and will begin his active duty by attending the chemical basic officer leader course at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
