AIKEN, SC (04/12/2018) The University of South Carolina Aiken's 11th annual Scholar Showcase officially kicked off April 12 in the Gregg-Graniteville Library.

The keynote speaker for the opening reception was Dr. Jane Couperus from Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass., who shared her research: "PURSUE: Hands on, Student-centered Research and Education in Cognitive Neuroscience."

Couperus is an associate professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience and dean of Cognitive Science at Hampshire College. She received her doctorate in child development with a minor in neuroscience from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota.

Her primary research interests are in the development of attention, learning, memory, and their neurological substrates. Her research uses both behavioral and physiological techniques -- primarily event-related potentials -- to gain a better understanding of the brain over the course of development.

USC Aiken undergraduates will present their original research during the 2018 Scholar Showcase, Friday, April 13 in the Gregg-Graniteville Library on campus. Oral presentations start at 9 a.m. Poster presentations start at 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.

The public is invited.
