ANNVILLE, PA (02/28/2012)(readMedia)-- A group of Lebanon Valley College students will sponsor a concert to honor the late LVC music professor Marcia Pickwell on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Zimmerman Recital Hall of the Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery. The concert is free and open to the public; however, ushers will be collecting donations for a scholarship fund in her honor.

The students sponsoring the concert are part of Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Alpha Chapter, a national professional women's music fraternity. They will perform both vocal and instrumental pieces that relate to the theme, "Stole your heart since 1903," the year of the fraternity's founding. Most of the musical selections will revolve around the theme of love.

"Pickwell is a special concert for us because we get to showcase our musical talents as a sisterhood," said Margaret Taylor '12, concert music director. "It's sure to be an inspiring and fun performance. We hope this concert motivates other girls who are interested in music to become a part of our sisterhood."

Each year since Pickwell's untimely death in a 1963 automobile accident, the sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota have held a memorial concert to raise money for the Marcia Pickwell Scholarship Fund. A student from LVC's Delta Alpha Chapter is awarded the Pickwell scholarship each year.

Pickwell joined the LVC Music Faculty in 1958 as an instructor of piano. She studied at Principia College in Illinois, The Juilliard School of Music, Harvard University, and the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
