ANNVILLE, PA (08/19/2014)(readMedia)-- Sitarist John Protopapas will present a classical Indian music recital Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Zimmerman Recital Hall of the Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery at Lebanon Valley College. The event is free and open to the public.
Raised in South Africa, Protopapas asserts that classical Indian music is the culmination and fruition of his ideas about music, self-expression, and improvisation. He says that the musical system "not only leads the musician and listeners into deep states of contemplation, but has the ability to touch on the most refined elements of sound and aesthetics."
Protopapas is an instructor of world music at York College, and teaches private sitar lessons. He has studied sitar for 25 years, and regularly performs and lectures on the subject.
