Skilled Construction Craft Laborers Recruit Apprentices
ITHACA, NY (02/24/2010)(readMedia)-- The Laborers International Union of North America Local Union #785-Ithaca Region, will conduct a recruitment from February 25, 2010 through January 27, 2011 for two apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications will be available at the Local Union #785 office, 622 West State Street, Ithaca, NY from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. every fourth Thursday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period.
The committee requires that applicants:
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have successfully completed at least two years of high school.
• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by applicant's signed affidavit.
• Must have valid driver's license to operate contractor's vehicles.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classes.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
