Skilled Construction Craft Laborers Recruit Apprentices

BOHEMIA, NY (03/17/2010)(readMedia)-- The Road & Heavy Construction Laborers Local Union #1298, will conduct a recruitment from March 18, 2010 through September 18, 2010 for twenty-five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local Union # 1298, 1611 Locust Ave, Bohemia, NY from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applicants must come in person to pick up application during allotted time.

The Committee requires that applicants:

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).

• Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by an affidavit attesting to ability to perform laborers work.

• Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and J.A.C. school.

• Must be legally entitled to work in the U.S.

• If accepted into Apprenticeship Program, must become union member.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
