Skilled Construction Craft Laborers Recruit Apprentices

BOHEMIA, NY (05/16/2009)(readMedia)-- The Skilled Construction Craft Laborers, will conduct a recruitment from May 18 through September 18, 2009 for 15 skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at Laborers Local #1298 JATF, 1611 Locust Avenue, Bohemia from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday during the recruitment period. Applications must be picked up in person during the allotted time.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be 18 years of age.
  • Have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by an affidavit attesting to the ability to perform laborers work.
  • Must become a union member upon acceptance into the program.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and J.A.C. school.
  • Must be able to work in the United States legally.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
