Smooth Win for West Des Moines Man in Fair Cheesecake Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/23/2017) (readMedia)-- Brian Keul of West Des Moines won first place and a $200 gift card in the Best Cheesecake Using Kellogg or Keebler competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Shannon Green of Runnells earned second place and a $150 gift card. Amber Wagner of Prairie City claimed third place and a $100 gift card.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Angela Miller of West Des Moines.

Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy cheesecake using at least one Kellogg or Keebler product.

Entrants were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging was held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
