Society of Philippine Surgeons in America to Meet in Hampton Roads

Physicians for Peace Commends Group for Ongoing Partnership and Service

NORFOLK, VA (07/25/2007)(readMedia)-- Norfolk, Va. (July 25, 2007) — The Society of Philippine Surgeons in America (SPSA) will hold its 35th Founding Anniversary and 33rd Continuing Medical Education (CME) Seminar in surgery in Norfolk, Virginia from July 25-28. All past presidents of the organization will be honored during the event, including Chesapeake resident and long-time Physicians for Peace volunteer Dr. Juan Montero, M.D., FACS. The conference will also feature, Dr. L.D. Britt, Chairman and Brickhouse Professor of Surgery in the Department of General Surgery, Eastern Virginia Medical School, as keynote speaker.

Physicians for Peace, a Norfolk-based international non-profit organization focusing on medical education in developing nations, has a long partnership with the SPSA, including work on PFP programs including Walking Free (prosthetics) and Seeing Clearly (eyeglass bank and examination program). Other aspects of the partnership include programs relating to kidney dialysis, mental health treatment, lymphatic filariasis, and the establishment of mobile clinics to reach into remote areas of the Philippines to treat the most underserved populations.
