BINGHAMTON, NY (03/29/2010)(readMedia)-- A Johnson City resident assigned to the 204th Engineer Battalion in Binghamton, has been named the New York Army National Guard's best full-time Non-Commissioned Officer for 2010.
Sgt. Sean Cronin, an administrative NC) with the 204th Engineer Battalion, was named the New York Army National Guard's best Active Guard and Reserve Non-Com following a competition held March 27-28 at National Guard headquarters in the Albany suburb of Latham.
"He is among best and the brightest," said New York National Guard Command Sgt. Major Robert Van Pelt. "Sgt. Cronin exemplifies the high standards we expect of our National Guard Soldiers and he will do well as a future leader in f the New York Army National Guard," he added.
As a member of the Active Guard and Reserve, or AGR, force, Cronin is a full-time Soldier unlike the traditional part-time National Guard Soldier. The AGR force, along with the Guard's force of civilian technicians, who are also required to be Guard members, do the work during the week that allows the traditional Guard force to train and prepare for state or federal emergencies.
Cronin, age 26, joined the Army National Guard in 2006. He has been a member of the 204th Engineers for two years.
He was selected for the honor based on recommendations from his commanders, his performance on military skills that included his ability to operate the M203 grenade launcher and search vehicles, and an interview by a board of senior non-commissioned officers.
His awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal. The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
