SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (02/08/2012)(readMedia)-- The Friends of the Saratoga Battlefield and the Friends of the New York State Military Museum will jointly sponsor two Tuesday evening talks on military history here at the NYS Military Museum and Veterans Research Center.

The programs, part of the museum "Soldier Series," are scheduled for Tuesday, February 21 and Tuesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. The talks are open to the public and free of charge.

February 21 - Tom McMartin discusses a "Tribute to the American Soldier."

On a recent trip to the battlefields of Europe, Saratoga Historical Park Ranger Tom McMartin was awestruck by the compassion and honor still shown to America's Soldiers on those historic fields. In this "return to Normandy," McMartin will discuss what makes the American Soldier so special, from the first Continental Soldiers of the Revolutionary War to today's Army.

March 20 - Larry Arnold presents "Beyond the Battles of Saratoga: the Fate of General Burgoyne's Army."

One of the most common questions visitors to the Saratoga National Battlefield ask is "what happened to the British troops that surrendered at Saratoga?" Saratoga Historical Park Ranger Larry Arnold will give the answer in a presentation that includes personal accounts and insights into the many personalities that influenced the fate of thousands of foreign soldiers in what many historians call "the turning point of the American Revolution."

Both programs will be held at the New York State Military Museum, 61 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866
