Soprano Rebecca Lister will perform Aug. 31 at Lebanon Valley College

ANNVILLE, PA (08/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Dr. Rebecca Lister, Lebanon Valley College associate professor of music, will perform a vocal recital Sunday, Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. in Zimmerman Recital Hall. The program is free and open to the public.

Soprano Rebecca Crow Lister will be performing a faculty voice recital with pianist Dr. Shelly Moorman-Stahlman, professor of music and College organist. Lister's program includes works in Portuguese and Spanish by composers such as Villa-Lobos, Salvador Moreno, Alberto Ginastera, and others. The theme will be "Music from the Forests and Plains," and will include Ginastera's mesmerizing "Las horas de una estancia" and Villa-Lobos's passionate "Songs from the Amazon Forest." Lister's concert is the first faculty concert for the fall season at LVC.

Dr. Lister earned her bachelor's degree in music education at James Madison University and continued her graduate studies at Florida State University where she earned a master's degree in voice performance and certificate in early music. Later she completed her doctorate of performance at FSU in 1997.

She teaches private voice lessons, vocal literature, vocal pedagogy, and diction at LVC as well as offering master classes on vocal technique and style. Although early music is one of her main interests, Lister enjoys repertoire from all style periods, especially chamber music, music by female composers, and art songs in Spanish by contemporary composers.

Lister maintains an active performing schedule, appearing as guest artist on various music series and recitals. She has performed with Berta Rojas several times, most recently at the historical DACOR Bacon House in Washington, DC (October 2013). Last summer, Lister received a prestigious Arnold Grant from LVC and traveled to Asunción, Paraguay. While there, she performed with the Orquesta del Congreso Nacional, taught lessons at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, gave master classes, and supervised a student pedagogy project.

Lebanon Valley College offers numerous public performances by students, faculty, and guests of the College throughout the semester. For the complete list of recitals this fall, visit http://www.lvc.edu/music/student-recitals.aspx.
