Spirited Desserts Win at the Fair
DES MOINES, IA (09/03/2021) (readMedia)-- Alisa Woods of Des Moines won first place and $500 in the Best Templeton Rye Desserts competition, judged Friday, August 20, at the 2021 Iowa State Fair.
Ann Gillotti of Ankeny earned second place and $300, and Holly Houg of Urbandale claimed third place and $200.
Entries were judged on flavor, presentation and overall incorporation of Templeton Rye.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 134 divisions, 603 classes and nearly 6500 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Urban Air.
The Iowa State Fair is one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country and the single largest event in the state. The Fair began over 160 years ago and is now considered one of the best events in the nation, attracting more than one million Fairgoers every year from all over the world.
