ST. BONAVENTURE, NY (12/17/2013)(readMedia)-- Chelsea Ann McBee, a sport studies major from Glenville, N.Y., addressed her classmates at St. Bonaventure University's December Recognition Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The annual event recognizes graduate and undergraduate students who complete their degree requirements in the fall semester of the academic year.

McBee told her classmates that the university's "Becoming Extraordinary" marketing message aptly describes the St. Bonaventure experience.

"I believe in extraordinary," said McBee. "I believe we are all put here on Earth to become extraordinary, with our own unique gifts and talents." St. Bonaventure helps cultivate those gifts while encouraging their use for the "greater good," she said, providing positive role models and a vast family of like-minded alumni.

Doing what's right isn't always easy, she cautioned. "Being servant-leaders will test us, but this is where the network of extraordinary will catch us, stand us up, and give us the encouragement we need to continue on being great leaders of character, and being extraordinary in our communities," she said.

McBee will now pursue a master's degree in mental health counseling at St. Bonaventure. She hopes to eventually join the Army as a mental health counselor, working with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Also at the recognition ceremony, Dr. S. Alan Silliker, associate professor of counselor education, gave the faculty address.

Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., welcomed the graduates and their families. Dr. Michael Fischer, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, served as master of ceremonies.
