Springfield Soldier Takes Command of Chicago-Based Battalion

SPRINGFIELD, IL (08/31/2015)(readMedia)-- Lt. Col. Richard Munyer of Springfield, Illinois, took command of the 108th Special Troops Battalion (STB) in Chicago during a change of command ceremony Aug. 29 at the Northwest Armory in Chicago.

Munyer takes the reigns from Lt. Col. Ron Jeanblanc of Athens, Illinois, who served as the 108th STB commander since January 2013. Jeanblanc will go on to serve as a special project officer with the Illinois National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters in Springfield, Illinois.

Munyer enlisted into the active Army in June 1983 as a Bradley fighting vehicle system maintainer and later commissioned as a second lieutenant in 2001. He joined the Illinois Army National Guard in 1993 and has served in various staff and leadership roles in the logistics and operations. His previous assignments include platoon leader, commander of the 1544th Transportation Company in Paris, Illinois, supply and logistics management officer with Joint Force Headquarters and assistant to the Illinois Army National Guard Chief of Staff.
