Springfield Soldier promoted to colonel

SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/25/2015)(readMedia)-- SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Mark Brewer of Springfield, Illinois, assigned to Illinois Army National Guard's (ILARNG) Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ), was promoted to the rank of colonel during a ceremony at the Illinois State Military Museum at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, Feb. 23.

Brewer, the Director of Logistics for the Illinois National Guard, has more than 31 years of service in the ILARNG. He commissioned in 1987 upon graduation from the Illinois National Guard's Officer Candidate School.

Brewer previously served as the Deputy Commander of the 108th Sustainment Brigade and as the Deputy Director of Facilities for JFHQ.

Brewer's awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), Humanitarian Service medal, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal. He is a graduate of the Command & General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.

Brewer deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009 serving as a logistics officer for Afghan Regional Security Integration Command-South and with the 108th Sustainment Brigade to Kuwait from 2013 to 2014.

Brewer and his wife, Janet, are parents of Emily, Katlyn, Dillon and Analise.
