Springfield Soldier promoted to lieutenant colonel

SPRINGFIELD, IL (06/25/2015)(readMedia)-- Richard Munyer of Springfield, Illinois, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel June 25 at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois.

Munyer serves as the full-time deputy personnel officer for the Illinois Army National Guard. He was recently selected as the new battalion commander of the 108th Special Troops Battalion in Chicago.

Munyer deployed to Operation Desert Storm with the Illinois Army National Guard's 2/18th in 2003 and then with the 232nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Munyer enlisted as a Bradley Fighting Vehicle System Mechanic in 1988 before he was directly appointed to second lieutenant in 2001.

He has more than 27 years of military service with the military, 22 years with the Illinois Army National Guard. Munyer has held many positions throughout his career including Maintenance and Transportation Officer, commander of the 1544th Transportation Company and Assistant to the Illinois Army National Guard Chief of Staff-Army.

Munyer resides in Springfield, Illinois, with his wife Felicia and his 16 year-old daughter, Clara.
