Springfield Soldier retires after 34 years of service

SPRINGFIELD, IL (09/30/2014)(readMedia)-- Master Sgt. Jeffrey D. Palmisano of Springfield, Illinois, received a Meritorious Service Medal for his 34 years of service during a retirement ceremony at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, Sept. 28.

Palmisano enlisted as a missile repairer with Detachment 1, Company G, 747th Maintenance Company in Champaign, Illinois, Jan. 28, 1980. He was hired full time in 1993 as a missile maintenance mechanic with the Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) in Springfield, Illinois. He recently retired from the CSMS as the state calibration coordinator.

In 2008, Palmisano deployed to Afghanistan with Company B, 634th Brigade Support Battalion based in Champaign, Illinois, as a communications electronics noncommissioned officer in charge. He ended his military career as an automotive supervisor with Joint Force Headquarters in Springfield, Illinois.

After retirement, Palmisano said he plans to enjoy his grandkids and travel with his wife, Gina.
