St. Pat's Day Treats Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/23/2023) (readMedia)-- Renee Kowlessar of Des Moines won first place and a $50 cash award in the World's Tallest Leprechaun St. Patrick's Day Treats competition, judged Sunday, August 13, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair.

Margaret Stoffregen of Des Moines earned second place, and Brenda Klyn of Pella claimed third place.

Judges also awarded Honorable Mention to Ilene Wallace of Council Bluffs.

Entries were judged on appearance and taste.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
