St. Paul Native Garr Punnett Earns Lake Forest College Athlete of the Week

The sophomore helped the Lake Forest College Swimming and Diving Team to a runner-up finish at the Midwest Conference Championships

LAKE FOREST, IL (02/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Swimmer Garr Punnett (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet last weekend.

Punnett, a sophomore, helped lead the Lake Forest men's team to a runner-up finish at the meet and the highest point total in five years. He was one of just two men at the meet to win all three of his individual events, placing first in the 200-IM (1:56.01) on Friday, 100-butterfly (51.43) on Saturday, and 200-butterfly (1:54.93) on Sunday. All three times rank him second in program history.

Lake Forest placed second in all four of Punnett's relays but set a new school record with a 400-medley relay time of 3:29.23. He led off with a 100-backstroke time of 52.15 seconds, which ranks him third in school history in that event. Punnett also swam on the 200-freestyle, 200-medley, and 400-freestyle relays, which fell just shy of team records by a combined 0.54 seconds.

Punnett is the first Forester male to win all three of his individual events at the conference meet since Eric Boarini accomplished the feat in 2002.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
