State Fair Best Brownies Honored

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2019) (readMedia)-- Ann Gillotti of Ankeny won first place and a $250 cash award in the Vera Towne's Chocolate Frosted Brownies competition, judged Saturday, August 10, at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Nicki Studer of Ankeny earned second place and $125. Bridget Lottman of Norwalk claimed third place and $75.

DeeDee Kennedy of Des Moines, Rosemary Ridgway of Johnston and Dana Edleman of Cambridge each were awarded $50 cash awards.

Entries were judged on taste and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 166 divisions, 715 classes and over 7,300 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.


The Iowa State Fair is one of the oldest and largest agricultural and industrial expositions in the country and the single largest event in the state.
