State Fair Livestock & Home Arts & Garden Competitions

LEWISBURG, WV (05/20/2009)(readMedia)-- The 2009 State Fair scheduled August 14-22 will be a showcase of "Farm Fresh Fun" livestock and home arts and garden competitions. Information for all competitions has been posted at www.statefairofwv.com.
New livestock competitions include a Registered Clydesdale Show, an "all other breeds" sheep show, and a carcass evaluation competition for market steers, lambs and goats. In addition, exhibitors in the open dairy cattle show and the open feeder calf show will see increased premium payouts.
In the home arts and garden departments, "Farm Fresh Fun" will be celebrated in "The Farmer's Market Display of Fresh Vegetables", the photography competition, the "Farm Fresh Fun Cookie Basket" competition and a new contest, Cupcake Creations, sponsored by Paulette's Pastries, from Ronceverte, WV.
Other new Home Arts and Garden competitions include: hard apple cider, additional classes in Adult Amateur Art, a knitting article made by a person under 12 years old and the addition of desert dish garden and miniature snapdragon classes in the flower show.
For decades, fairgoers have enjoyed the State Fair's livestock shows, quilt displays and special contests. and according to Reagan Simms Rodgers, Competitive Exhibits/Agricultural Education Coordinator, "Our challenge is to remain relevant and interesting to those who wish to compete, and to present interesting displays for those who attend the fair. Agriculture is the foundation of our fair and one of the best ways to tell this story is through our livestock and home arts displays."
Entry deadline for all exhibits is July 18 at 12 Noon. Printed copies of 2009 information are mailed to 2008 exhibitors or they can be obtained at The State Fair of West Virginia offices in Fairlea.
