State Office for Aging Director Visits Hudson Valley Region to Promote Services Available To Older New Yorkers

Health Insurance Counseling & Assistance Program Highlighted

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (12/16/2009)(readMedia)-- Every New Yorker has basic rights: the right to food on their table and a roof over their head; the right to affordable health care and the opportunity to find work. In an effort to inform older New Yorkers about State and federal programs available through the local offices for aging to help them live independently, Diretor of the NYS Office for the Aging will hold a press conference in Poughkeepsie to promote those programs.

WHAT:

A press conference aimed at bringing attention to the availability of services many of which are free or are federally funded through county offices for aging and other social services agencies which provide real assistance for tens of thousands of New Yorkers. Services such as nutrition, home heating assistance, health insurance counseling assistance and job placement assistance are available to help many New Yorkers weather the economic downturn during this holiday season and beyond. Health Insurance Information Counselors will be on hand to help Medicare beneficiaries choose the right health/drug plans.
