State Program Seeks NY Companies with the Best Workplace Practices to Compete for Prestigious Business Award

NEW YORK, NY (08/28/2007)(readMedia)-- Companies providing a first-class workplace can now aspire for recognition among The Best Companies to Work for in New York.

This prestigious award is designed to identify and recognize the Empire State’s best employers who strive to create and build a better workplace for their employees. Consideration for the honor is open to all non-profit and for-profit companies with 25 or more employees working in New York.

Managed by Best Companies Group in conjunction with the New York State Society for Human Resource Management (NYS SHRM), this program provides recognition similar to Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America.”

Application and registration details can be found at www.BestCompaniesNY.com or by calling Best Companies Group at 877-455-2159. The deadline to register is September 21, 2007.

“Numerous studies show a strong correlation between profitability and creating a good place to work,” said Barry Manus, Chair of NYS SHRM’s Best Companies Initiative. “The goal of the program is to heighten company pride, bolster employee morale, raise company visibility and increase the bottom line.”

New Yorkers will be able to direct their job search efforts to those companies with a workplace culture that stands out above the rest. These environments afford employees a great place to demonstrate their talents.

“This award provides New York business owners with the tools necessary to recruit the best workers,” said Robin McConnell, Executive Director of NYS SHRM. “Being recognized as one of the best places to work in the state gives a company a significant leg up on its competition.”

The Best Companies to Work for in New York will be selected based on the results of a two-part survey conducted by ModernThink, LLC. The survey includes an organizational overview of a company’s policies and procedures as well as an in-depth employee questionnaire.

“While making the list is certainly an honor, all companies who participate in the survey will receive the benefit of an in-depth Assessment Findings Report detailing feedback from their employees,” said Manus. This report will also include benchmarking data so companies can compare themselves to the selected companies.

While companies who wish to participate pay a nominal fee to do so, the fee is a fraction of what they would pay a private consulting firm to conduct an internal employee survey.

Results of the competition will be announced at an award ceremony to honor the businesses that make the list on April 10, 2008 in Albany and featured in publications throughout the state.
