State Treasurer Fitzgerald to Announce New Treasury Program for Persons with a Disability or Blindnes

DES MOINES, IA (02/03/2017) (readMedia)-- Iowa State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald will announce the official start of a groundbreaking multi-state partnership that will help individuals with a disability or blindness save for a better future. Treasurer Fitzgerald will share information about the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Program in Iowa.

Treasurer Fitzgerald will announce plans for the ABLE Act in Iowa and the treasury’s new program, IAble.

Following the passage of the Achieving a Better Life Act (ABLE) at the federal level in 2014, Iowa adopted state ABLE legislation with the support of Treasurer Fitzgerald. This legislation enabled the treasurer’s office to create IAble, Iowa’s ABLE program. This is a federally tax-advantaged savings program that allows individuals to save for disability-related expenses without jeopardizing their eligibility for federal assistance programs.
