Statement by Republican State Chairman Joseph N. Mondello

ALBANY, NY (05/29/2007)(readMedia)-- I commend the Senate Republican Majority for their efforts to reinvigorate the stagnating Upstate Economy by acting today on their Upstate Now program. If only Eliot Spitzer would make a genuine effort to improve the economy, relief could soon be on the way.

Last summer and fall, candidate Spitzer compared Upstate to Appalachia and promised to make it a priority. Unfortunately, many months have passed without him delivering any real results.

Governor Spitzer and those who, like him, enjoy high personal net worth do not seem to understand that New Yorkers do not need his political bullying or endless commissions. They need real results, and they need them now.

I urge the Governor to join with the Legislature to make economic development a reality for the families of New York that desperately need relief.
