Statement by the State Commission of Investigation

NEW YORK, NY (08/08/2007)(readMedia)-- This Commission has been aware of and has been following the multiple investigations related to the alleged misuse of State Police resources, including those of Attorney General Cuomo, Inspector General Hamann, the Ethics Commission, and the Senate Investigations Committee.  Chairman Lerner has conferred with Albany County District Attorney Soares prior to the announcement of the latter’s preliminary inquiry into this matter to determine if a full investigation is warranted.

The Commission is aware of its responsibilities.  We are closely following these inquiries and have initiated our own preliminary review.  However, in order to avoid the danger of conflicting investigations, with the inherent possibility of impeding one or all of them, we are postponing any further investigation until the District Attorney has had a reasonable opportunity to review this matter or other factors require Commission action.
