Statement from Governor David A. Paterson on Federal Unemployment Insurance

ALBANY, NY (12/02/2010)(readMedia)-- "As we continue to take tenuous steps toward economic recovery, the imminent loss of Unemployment Insurance benefits to nearly 200,000 New Yorkers by the end of the year would deal a debilitating blow to our immediate economic future. Extending unemployment benefits will positively impact on our economy as every dollar spent on unemployment insurance leads to a two dollar increase in the economic activity in local communities. I commend the New York State Congressional Delegation for their support of this vital issue and call on Congressional leaders to extend the Federal Unemployment Insurance benefits and help so many New Yorkers for whom economic recovery is not yet a reality."
