Statement from Governor David A. Paterson on the State University of New York's Strategic Plan

ALBANY, NY (04/14/2010)(readMedia)-- "As economic growth becomes increasingly dependant upon innovation and the creation of new knowledge, our State's educational infrastructure cannot stand apart from New York's broader economy. Consistent with my strategic vision for New York's leadership in the New Economy is the State University of New York's new, strategic plan, which was built from the ground up in coordination with each of the systems' 64 campuses and led by SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher and the SUNY Board of Trustees.

"The SUNY strategic plan represents an unprecedented, new vision of SUNY's role in New York, in addition to a timely recognition of major changes in our economy. This plan has the potential to revitalize New York State for generations, all while ensuring that our students receive a top-quality education that not only enriches their lives, but enriches our society. More than ever before, the future of New York is tied to the future of SUNY.

"I would like to commend Chancellor Zimpher and the State University of New York for their extraordinary work in developing this historic strategic plan that will build upon our State's already prestigious and successful higher education system."
