Statement from JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger on the Second Anniversary of the October 7th Attacks
NEW YORK, NY (10/06/2025) (readMedia)-- With the two-year anniversary of October 7th approaching, coinciding this year with the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, JCRC-NY is marking the occasion with a message of reflection and solidarity.
Statement from Mark Treyger, CEO of JCRC-NY:
"It has been two years since Hamas' attack on Israel - the deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust - and Jewish communities worldwide, including here in New York, continue to carry an unrelenting grief. Our thoughts today are with the families and loved ones of those directly affected by that horrific day: the victims and survivors, the 20 hostages believed to be alive in Gaza, and those whose bodies have not yet been recovered. We mourn those we've lost and pray that all those still in Gaza, living and deceased, are returned to their families. We are not whole until we are all home.
On Sunday, JCRC-NY marked this solemn anniversary by co-hosting a moving memorial with the UJA Federation of New York and the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. We are deeply grateful to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, and to all survivors and families who have transformed their grief into tireless advocacy. Our leaders must take every action necessary to deliver justice and healing to them and to all Jews across the diaspora. They will be judged by their ability to bring the hostages home, end the war, and secure lasting peace for Israel and the region.
We are also deeply grateful to our interfaith leaders in New York who have continually shown up for us in times of need. We reaffirm our commitment to stand beside them as we work together to strengthen mutual respect and understanding across New York's diverse communities.
As we pray for this nightmare to end, JCRC-NY will continue to combat the rising antisemitism that has reached unprecedented levels over the past two years. We will honor the memories of those we have lost by working toward a more just and peaceful future. JCRC-NY is here to support our community during this difficult time."
