STAUNTON, VA (02/02/2012)(readMedia)-- The Staunton Recreation Department is expecting a large turnout at this year's Ellen Gypsy Yard Sale. The vendor spaces for the event scheduled for Saturday, February 11th are sold out. Ellen's Gypsy Yard Sale has always attracted large numbers of patrons and this year will be no different given the bleak economy. Less disposable income has turned many folks into smart shoppers looking for bargains. With 35 different vendors displaying and selling wares they have deemed unwanted or unnecessary , there is sure to be a large quantity and variety of affordable treasures of every type. The sale of adult clothes, infant clothes, baby items, toys, games, jewelry, longaberger baskets, Sensy candles, other candles, hunting items, decorations, kitchen items, collectibles, beanie babies, etc. will be featured.

The economy has created this niche and the need for affordable goods such as clothes and housewares. "That's the great thing about a yard sale, what is useless to one person could be very valuable to others. It's a highly beneficial form of recycling", said event organizer Claire Richardson. Claire also reports this year, The Shenanodah Valley Office on Youth will be selling scrumptious breakfast items, the menu includes: biscuits and gravy, breakfast casserole, coffee and bottled water. These treats are being sold to raise money for the SAW (Staunton, Augusta, Waynesboro) Coalition whose mission is to prevent youth from involvement in criminal gang activity, drug use, violence, and other risky behaviors. Additionally, Goodwill Industries will also collaborate on this event. At the conclusion, they will be on hand to collect unsold items/donations and write receipts for tax purposes for any donated goods. The event is free to the public. Doors open promptly at 8 a.m. - no early pickers.
