HAMDEN, CT (11/18/2010)(readMedia)-- Stephanie Norris, of Nantucket, Mass., received the Emerging Leader Award at Quinnipiac University's Business Leader Hall Fame dinner held Nov. 9 at the New Haven Lawn Club in New Haven, Conn.
The award recognizes business students who demonstrate excellence both in and out of the classroom, including leadership roles on campus and/or significant community service.
Norris is a senior accounting major with an information systems management minor. This past summer, she completed an internship at the Hartford office of Deloitte & Touche LLP. Norris worked in the company's Enterprise Risk Services department. After graduating in May, she will work full-time as a consultant for the company.
Norris serves as student representative on the School of Business Advisory Board and is a member of the school's Mentoring Program Committee. She is on the dean's list and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the National Business Honor Society.
Norris says she was surprised to see nearly 200 guests in attendance at the annual awards dinner. "I think it's awesome how many people went because of their interest in not just what's in front of them-they have a wider view of what else is going on and they appreciate what else is going on in the business world," she said.
The event also honored Peyton R. Patterson, chairperson, president and chief executive officer of NewAlliance Bank, who became the latest inductee into the Quinnipiac University School of Business Leader Hall of Fame.
The Business Leader Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding business people who have made significant contributions to their businesses and industries through leadership. The program has educated and motivated students by presenting honorees, who can share their experiences, to discuss their careers and offer advice. All proceeds from the event benefited the School of Business' Endowed Scholarship Fund. Scholarships from this fund are awarded to full-time School of Business junior and senior students with demonstrated financial need.
