Stoughton Resident Antonio Barbagallo Honored By Sicilian Government
A Professor of Foreign Languages at Stonehill College, Barbagallo was named an Excellent Silician by Silicia Mondo.

EASTON, MA (02/22/2012)(readMedia)-- Stoughton resident Antonio Barbagallo, a foreign languages professor at Stonehill College in Easton, was recently honored as a Siciliani Eccellenti (Excellent Silician) by Silicia Mondo, a social network partnership created by the Association of Sicilians in the World and the Emigration Department of Sicily's regional government.
The distinction is awarded to Sicilians who have achieved excellence in their respective fields. Barbagallo has been teaching at Stonehill since 1989. A world renowned specialist in Cervantes studies, Hispanic Poetry, Spanish and Italian Linguistics as well as a poet, Barbagallo is currently on sabbatical in Madrid, researching in the National Library. Born in Sicily, he has appeared regularly in Who's Who in the World.
He has presented papers at innumerable national and international conferences on a variety of topics and is the author of a book on the poetry of Antonio Machado, two books of original poetry, and of more than two dozen articles on Don Quixote, poetry and linguistics.
Barbagallo was one of ten honorees from around the world who gathered for a three day conference in Catania, Sicily's capital. On the final day of the conference, Barbagallo, along with the other honorees, met the Honorable Raffaele Lombardo, president of the Regional Government of Sicily and other dignitaries.
As a student, Barbagallo studied in Italy, Spain, the U.S. and Mexico under the guidance of world-renowned critics and poets such as Concha Zardoya, Ramón de Zubiría, Carlos Bousoño, and Vito Giustinian.
