Student Kelly Bean Making Her Mark in FSU's President's Leadership Circle

FROSTBURG, MD (03/12/2014)(readMedia)-- FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State University student Kelly Bean of Deer Park, Md., is making her mark in the President's Leadership Circle for the 2013-2014 academic year. Bean, nominated from among FSU's finest students, was selected for demonstrating significant leadership in and out of the classroom.

Bean has a double major in mass communication and psychology with a minor in public relations. She led the way in arranging the 2013 and 2014 Sloop Institutes for Excellence in Leadership and is an intern in the Office of Leadership and Experiential Learning. She is also the director of live events for the University Programming Council, a Bobcat Ambassador, a member of the Student Alumni Association and a columnist for The Bottom Line. She is a member of the honors program and spent her past summer studying abroad in San Jose, Costa Rica.

PLC members are provided a variety of opportunities to further develop their leadership skills and steward relevant causes through their proven capabilities in the classroom and community. They may enhance their intercultural communication skills with opportunities to engage in a service-learning project in another culture, network with distinguished alumni, interact with the University's leadership team and share their perspectives about FSU. Other PLC requirements include having completed 75 or more credit hours and having earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

In past years, PLC students have held significant leadership positions on campus. Other members have demonstrated their leadership by the contributions they have made to the campus community and the respect they have earned among faculty, staff and students alike.
