Students Climb Aboard for Poetry

AIKEN, SC (04/26/2018) The South Carolina Humanities Festival, hosted by the University of South Carolina Aiken, featured a poetry contest for area students.

Public, private and home-schooled students participated. Several were awarded during the festival's "All Aboard for Poetry" event at the Aiken Center for the Arts.

Student poets awarded were:

Elementary School - Taylor Campbell

Poem: "Aiken Has"

2nd grade, East Aiken School of the Arts

Middle School - Hannah Kraus

Poem: "New Home"

8th grade, Mead Hall

High School - Virginia Wayt

Poem: "Southern Exposure"

11th grade, Aquinas High

After the student award ceremony, several local poets shared their work, including: Dr. Amanda Warren, English professor at USC Aiken; Roy Seeger, English professor at USC Aiken; and Mike Lythgoe, member of Augusta Poetry Group and Authors Club of Augusta.
