ALBANY, NY (09/19/2009)(readMedia)-- Thousands of high school students will soon be starting their college search by visiting college fairs across New York State. Representatives from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) will be available at many college fairs to inform students and families about their financial aid options. HESC is the State's student financial aid agency, administering New York's Tuition Assistance Program, which provided more than $827 million in grants to more than 300,000 students last year, more than any other state in the nation.

In addition to TAP, New York offers 18 federal and state scholarships, loan forgiveness, and special award programs to help New York students finance their education.

Information about the HESC Student Loan Marketplace, a Web site that lets students learn about and compare multiple private loans, and the New York State Higher Education Loan Program, NYHELPs, will also be available at each college tour stop. Students, families and counselors are encouraged to stop by the HESC booth and learn about this new program that will help families fill the gap between state and federal financial aid and college costs.

HESC.org is the state's student financial aid Web site that offers the latest information about state and federal financial aid and provides financial literacy, academic and career planning for students, families and high school counselors.
