DANVILLE , IL (04/11/2012)(readMedia)-- A few students from Lakeview College of Nursing will participate in Giving Animals a Second Chance at the Newman Catholic Center located at 500 Roosevelt Avenue in Charleston, IL,on Saturday, April 14 from 1 to 4 pm. Everyone from the community who is an animal lover is encouraged to attend.
The group plans to give families the opportunity to give and collect funds and supplies for the animal shelter. There will also be pet-themed activities and crafts for the children, a bake sale, home-made toys and treats for sale, and a "meet and greet" with some of the pets from Genesis Animal Rescue of Mattoon. All monetary donations are welcome along with any pet supplies (food, toys, etc.).
Lakeview students Brittany Davis of Mattoon, IL; Rachel Howe of West Chicago, IL; and Katie Kropschot of Twain Harte, CA , decided to pursue this effort with Genesis Animal Rescue to raise awareness in the community about how they can help homeless animals. All of the students have a great deal of compassion for animals and want to improve the health of animals in this area.
Davis's grandfather is a veterinarian in a near by town and this has sparked an interest within the group to help the local community with this need. Additionally, Howe was a Girl Scout for 12 years and has always enjoyed doing service projects and volunteering for shelters in her home town area in the past.
Genesis is a non-profit, no-kill shelter and based solely on donations. All of the shelter's animals are placed in volunteer foster homes. The shelter needs many items to ensure that the animals receive proper care.
