DANVILLE , IL (03/20/2012)(readMedia)-- A group of students from Lakeview College of Nursing are seeking childrens shoe donations in order to share them with those in need.
Students will be collecting children shoes of all sizes and genders for their effort - "Walk in their shoes" shoe drive. The students will provide shoes that are collected to residents of Fair Oaks Housing Authority (proof of residence will be required). They plan to distribute the shoes at an event scheduled on April 2nd from 4 - 6 pm and on April 3rd from 6-8 pm in the Community Room at the housing authority.
Those interested in donating new or gently used shoes (no exclusions) can drop off donations to Lakeview College of Nursing 903 North Logan ave in Danville, IL through March 23rd. Once all the donations are received, they will be organized according to size and gender to prepare for the distribution. On the scheduled distribution dates, tables will be set up and shoes will be identified according to size and gender for the families to come and pick out shoes for their family. Families will be limited to the number of shoes distributed based on their family size.
Lakeview students Vanessa Ramirez of Orland, IL; Rhys Hayden of Gig Harbor, WA; Angie Baus of Racine, WI; and Lindsey Helbling of Sacramento, CA, decided to pursue this effort with the Fair Oaks Housing Authority because of the experience they had at the health fair conducted there this past summer. The students noticed the overwhelming need for basic necessities and they wanted to help give back in order to make a big difference in the lives of these residents.
Lakeview College of Nursing has provided excellence in nursing education since 1894. Lakeview currently offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree program in Danville as well as Charleston, Illinois.
