Subaru Promotes Research of Weather, Builds Vehicles to Handle It

Sponsors 10th Annual Seek-the-Peak Fundraiser at Mount Washington

BRAINTREE, MASS (08/16/2010)(readMedia)-- New Hampshire's Mount Washington is home to some of the most severe weather on the planet, which makes Subaru, a leader in building vehicles that tame the elements, an apt sponsor for the 10th annual Seek-the-Peak Hike-a-Thon Fundraiser. The event raised $197,000 to support weather monitoring at Mount Washington Observatory.

In place since 1932, Mount Washington Observatory is one of the United States' leading centers for weather observation, research and education. Its mission is supported by research grants, partnerships and private donations.

This year, the Seek-the-Peak fundraiser led 479 hikers, all of whom raised at least $100 for the cause, to the summit of Mount Washington. With the help of Subaru, this year's event set records for turnout and money raised.

Subaru's involvement in New England organizations contributes to the pride that Sean Ternullo feels as General Manager of Quirk Works Subaru, a leading Greater Boston Subaru dealer.

"This is why our customers love Subaru," said Ternullo. "The cars are reliable and handle all varieties of driving conditions with confidence. But it's Subaru's initiative to be a part of local fundraising efforts that really affirms their dedication to their customers and the communities where they live. It's not just a brand image; it's a reality."

New England Subaru drivers will benefit from the Seek-the-Peak sponsorship through Mount Washington's ongoing research into wind, snow and ice, common enemies on New England's roads. The sponsorship is part of Subaru's ongoing support for outdoor enthusiasts, which includes building vehicles that allow New Englanders to access and enjoy the natural environment in all weather conditions.

Following the Seek-the-Peak hike to the summit, nearby Mount Cranmore hosted an after-party for participants, complete with live music and giveaways. Subaru donated a one-year lease for a new 2010 Subaru Outback, which was raffled off at the party. The lucky winner drove away with Motor Trend's 2010 SUV of the Year, a model ready to tackle both the back roads of New Hampshire and the pothole-lined streets of Boston with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Vehicle Dynamics Control.

"Subaru proves its outdoor value through events like Seek-the-Peak and by winning awards and acclaim for the reliability and off-road versatility of their vehicles," said Ternullo. "When you drive a Subaru, you don't need a 'This Car Climbed Mt. Washington' bumper sticker to prove its capabilities; you get that with the Subaru badge."
