Suffolk Cty. Funeral Directors Douglas Brueggemann & Wesley Powell Appointed to Volunteer Disaster Commission

ALBANY, NY (11/15/2007)(readMedia)-- Douglas Brueggemann of East Northport and Wesley Powell of Amityville have been appointed to serve on the Family Assistance Commission (FAC) organized by the New York State Funeral Directors Association (NYSFDA) to respond to disasters occurring in New York State.

Brueggemann has been designated as Chairman of the group. As FAC members, Brueggemann and Powell will interview survivors and process paperwork to assist in identifying and facilitating the release of remains to the next of kin.

They were chosen to serve on this commission due to their extensive experience as funeral directors in New York State.

Brueggemann of the Brueggemann Funeral Home in East Northport, has been a licensed funeral director for 32 years. He is chairman of the NYSFDA Disaster Committee. Brueggemann is also a DMORT member and was deployed to the site of the Egypt Air Flight 990 airliner crash, 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina to aid in recovery and identification of victims.

Wesley A. Powell of the Powell Funeral Home in Amityville has been a licensed funeral director for 29 years. He worked in the family assistance center during the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 airliner crash.

FAC will operate under the auspices of the New York State Tribute Foundation, which is the charitable arm of NYSFDA. The NYS Tribute Foundation is a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting education, outreach and research programs that advance the public's understanding of end-of-life issues.
