PLATTSBURGH, NY (06/24/2010)(readMedia)-- North Country youth are invited to participate in a summer full of enrichment opportunities through the Summer Safari program.

They can take part in Science Mondays (and one Science Tuesday), explore ancient Egypt, learn about Greek mythology, discover dance, and make jewelry or puppets. They can even act in the musical "Once Upon a Mattress," and that's just to name a few activities.

All of these are part of an annual program, designed for youth ages 5 through 18, and hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh College Auxiliary Services throughout July and early August. Individual courses run from a few hours to several weeks in duration and cost from $35 to $295, depending on the offering.

"Summer Safari is such a great program because kids get to delve into something of particular interest to them or something that is brand new and exciting," said CAS Conference Director Kate Chilton. "Classes are small, and the teachers have a special interest in the subject and in sharing their knowledge with young people. In the end, the children come away with a terrific sense of accomplishment and well-being."

This year's program offerings include activities in the following fields:

  • Theater.
  • Science and Math.
  • Languages.
  • History.
  • Art.
  • Just Plain Kid Stuff (Reading, Art and Edibles; The Girl's Club; Life in the Adirondacks; and more).
  • Dance and Choreography.
