Sunday Dinner Favorites Win State Fair Awards

DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2018) (readMedia)-- For many, Sunday dinners with family are an Iowa tradition. That special meal was the inspiration for the Sunday Dinner at Mom's competition Sunday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Contestants were challenged to create a ribbon winning main dish, side dish, dessert and snack that would be served at a family Sunday dinner.

Kyle Barton of West Des Moines won First Place Overall and a $100 cash award.

Judy Kiburz-Harrison of Tingley claimed Second Place Overall and $50. Molly Thomas of Centerville earned Third Place Overall and $25.

Joseph Ridgway of Johnson won the Outstanding Youth Exhibit award and $25.

Entries were judged on taste, story and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 171 divisions, 727 classes and over 9,574 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
