Suny DELHI's Online Nursing Program Earns State Award

DELHI, NY (12/03/2010)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi's online RN to BSN program was selected by the Continuing Education Association of New York State (CEANY) as the 2010 winner of the James C. Hall, Jr. Exemplary Program Award.

"This award recognizes the success of SUNY Delhi's RN to BSN in delivering quality, accessible and affordable nursing education programs to help meet the critical need for registered nurses," said SUNY Delhi President Candace S. Vancko.

According to Dr. Mary Pat Lewis, SUNY Delhi Nursing and Allied Health department chair, the RN to BSN Online program was recognized for providing educational mobility for registered nurses who are seeking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a curriculum that is designed with the working registered nurse in mind, offering versatility and flexibility through its online delivery.

"We are most proud to accept this exemplary program award," Dr. Lewis said. "This honor reflects the commitment of not only the program faculty and staff, but the campus as a whole in developing this quality program."

The award was presented at the CEANY annual conference awards banquet at the Hotel Thayer in West Point on November 11, 2010.

The first degree of its kind to be offered totally online in New York State, Delhi's RN to BSN program was in response to the state and nation's shortage of baccalaureate-prepared RNs. Enrollment has grown from 20 students in 2008 to more than 300 today.

SUNY Delhi's RN to BSN curriculum is designed for working registered nurses who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree. Online delivery offers students greater versatility and flexibility with students able to enroll either part-time for full-time in the fall, spring or summer semesters. Practical, hands-on experiences for select courses are completed in the student's hometown area.
